Automator is an application developed by Apple for OS X that implements point-and-click (or drag and drop) creation of workflows for automating repetitive tasks into batches for quicker alteration, thus saving time and effort over human intervention to manually change each file separately.

Automator enables the repetition of tasks across a wide variety of programs, including the Finder, the Safari web browser, iCal/Calendar, Address Book/Contacts and others. It can also work with third-party applications such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop or Pixelmator. Automator was first released with Mac OS X Tiger.

  1. Why does Automator first ask you to choose a template? If using for the first time, how do you know which to choose? Very bad design to immediately present the user with something confusing.

  2. I am looking for an easy way to create multiple emails using both excel or numbers and safari. I would like to be able to create emails using the information in a spreadsheet and applying them to the different fields presented in one.com any ideas where to start? Thanks beforehand!

  3. Hello, thank you. I appreciated this tutorial. I did not know of automator until now as I was looking for a way to get the %20 out of all of my downloaded files in safari. since it is a new OS it looks little different. For instance, when I go to save it, only Save comes us (not save as) and I cannot figure out where to save it so that it is available in the services file so I can run it any time.

also, is there a way to make this action happen when anything is downloaded? or does it just run if i click to run it. Again, I cannot find the workflow (or should it be a file action) under the preferences, I have to open automotive every time. Thank you for your help if you can help. Apple would not help me with Automator or the problem with safari, even though it is a brand new computer.

  7. Considering Mac as one of the best OS platform, they will definitely have something better to offer and Automator is one of the best in terms of automation assistant. Before, I had to move my files that I’ve downloaded to another folder manually and it is quite irritating to do it again and again. Now, I am doing my work faster. Thanks to the developer of Automator and especially for Techyv for sharing this useful video to us.
